Moose's Comment: "At five hours, this is the longest film ever shown at any JRFF, but it is worth it. The intricate love story takes a while to unfold, but it offers a convincing glimpse into 19th century English culture, with convincing characters. It's easy to find 21st century analogues to many of the characters in the movie, proving that Jane Austen grasped something about human nature in her classic novel. For example, which character reminds you of the moose?"

Squirrel's Comment: "I am such a Jane Austen junkie.

I have seen this film somewhere around twenty times, and can quote vast amounts of it direct from memory. I still can't stop watching it. This is by far the best Jane Austen film adaptation I've ever seen. The casting is impeccable. The story is definitely rather complex, with a lot of characters and locations to keep straight, but once you've got a handle on everything, the story flows beautifully. If you pay attention and try to understand the period and its social politics, or even if you're just into a good love story, there's not a dull moment in the entire five hours of this movie."

Trivia: Susannah Harker, who plays Jane, is the daughter of Polly Adams, who played Jane in BBC's 1967 version of Pride and Prejudice.
