Moose's Comment: "When I first saw the three Lord of the Rings movies, I didn't like them. I thought the world was unnecessarily complex, with so many made-up races and languages. I thought the plot was clichéd and the characters shallow. But, after many hours of patient explanations from Squirrel, I realized I was getting caught up in the details and missing the point of the story.

Lord of the Rings is a classic tale of the struggle of good and evil, with several twists that make it very interesting. The evil characters weren't born evil (except for Sauron) - they started with good intentions, but were corrupted by the power of the ring. The story takes place in a multicultural world where people must set aside their differences to fight a common enemy. When you understand the big picture of the story, the details make more sense, and the film becomes very enjoyable. The four hours of this extended version pass quickly."

Squirrel's Comment: "That's not really what The Lord of the Rings is about. I just let Moose think that so I can watch the movies without having to listen to him grouching. (Only kidding, Moose.)

Seriously, I originally had no interest in LotR. I never went to see Fellowship of the Ring in theaters, and I refused to read the books. Finally, a friend foisted his copies of The Hobbit, the LotR trilogy, and the Silmarillion on me with accompanying threats of grievous bodily harm if I failed to read them. I valued my life, so I read the books, and have been a Tolkien devotee ever since. If you're not, you need to come to this screening, and find out what you're missing.

Oh, and don't miss the part where Saruman is trying to kill Fozzie Bear in Spain. *teehee*"

Trivia: The Orc battle cries for the Helm's Deep battle sequence were provided by a stadium of 25,000 cricket fans, who screamed the war chants, spelled out on the Diamond Vision screen, with Jackson himself leading the crowd.
